God in the Treehouse

This morning's laugh:

Fia: Mom, I like to play God in the treehouse.
Me: (startled into fits of laughter): Oh yeah? And what else do you do while you're up in the treehouse? (by the way, not only do we not have a treehouse; to my knowledge, she has never seen a treehouse)
Fia: I like to play with all my toys.
Me: Do you have tea parties in the treehouse?
Fia: Yes, with all of my babies, and one of my babies is your sister, Mom.
Me: Oh! Cool.
Fia: Yep, we're cool Mom.

She started singing the "Itchy Bitchy Spider" (aka the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" if you don't have a 2-year-old's lisp) and asking for her sunglasses at that point, or I would've asked other probing questions about what it's like to play God in the treehouse.

I should've asked her who God supports for the election, but I know her answer would just mimic my political biases. :)

Speaking of mimicking political biases—Todd and I had his kids with us during the first presidential debate. When we flipped it on Obama was on the screen and Sofia (just turned four) yells with as much excitement as she usually reserves for Dora, “Obama!” I loved it! Then she asked who the good guy was and who the bad guy was. Dylan (8 years old) quickly answers that Obama is the good guy and McCain is bad.

Todd tries to do the good parenting thing and say that different people like different things about each and blah, blah, blah, but I was secretly so proud of both of them that night!

Biases? You're merely educating your children on matters of sound economic principles and raising them to have a strong social conscience and good ethics while at the same time training them to think for themselves!!

I completely agree with Favatec. It's education, not bias creation!

And does Fia have one of those plastic treehouse toys that I used to have that look like melted green and brown wax with little tree stump furniture inside?? If not, maybe you should see if you can pick one up in the Salvation Army. They're the bestest!
