Lately the kids love watching the TV show "Full House," which cracks me up because it's a show I remember watching on primetime. Sofia, however, has started saying, "hellooooo?" in this sarcastic voice if she's talking to me and I don't respond right away, and when I asked her where she learned that, she said, "Full House." Hmmm -- strike number one!
Then, this morning, Gabe asked if they could watch "Full House," and I said, "sure" and put an episode on for them to watch. (Yeah, we record our kids' favorite shows.) And as soon as it started, he said, "Awww, man, this is an old one. Can you put on a new one, Mom?" I started laughing and said, "Gabe, you do realize there are no NEW ones, right? This show was on at night when I was a kid and all of them are reruns." And his eyes got big. "But Mom, 'Full House' is in color!"
Wow! How old do my kids think I am?! I guess I remember thinking my parents were ancient too! :)
I can't get over how big my babies are getting! Especially after watching them with younger kids this past weekend...Gabe turns 7 in less than a month and Sofia will be 5 in December. Gabe is only a foot shorter than I am.
We were at restaurant recently when Gabe noticed the server had a couple of silly bands on her wrist. He said, "Mom, she's too old to have silly bands." I laughed and I modified the comment for the server. "My son likes your silly bands." She smiled and said, "I have a baby sister your age who gave these to me." As she walked off, Sofia piped up with, "Mom, a 6-year-old is NOT a baby." I reminded them that they will always be my babies even when they're grown -- just like their aunts and uncles will always be my BABY brothers and sisters. Sofia said, "So, even when I'm 33, I will be your baby girl?" "Yes, even when you're in your THIRTIES." The kids say "33" like it's a dirty word. Yep, they think their parents are old farts! I guess we gotta remind 'em that we know how to party! :)

Do you remember being certain 6yrs old and CERTAIN that you'd make your first million, be a rock star, be married to Prince Charming AND be able to cure Alzheimer's (a personal goal of mine watching my Gram struggle for so long) by the time you were 30??
Um....
Yeah.
Not So Much.
Somehow I'm not sure you can remind them you can still party. You're MOM. They never knew you like we do! :) And we all know you're still the hottest thing on 2 legs.
