To my probably 3 readers (none of whom yet have kids), I have a fun secret to share about parenthood. There is some jammin' music for kids out there, evidenced by the fact that I walk around at work, humming these catchy tunes in my head. You can't help it. And you'll probably recognize some of the band names too -- They Might Be Giants, Dan Zanes, Medeski, Martin & Wood, & Elizabeth Mitchell are just a few of our faves! Check out these catchy lyrics that have been runnin' through my head keepin' me happy all day long:
Written by Grimwood/Idlet and sung by Trout Fishing in America --
My hair had a party last night.
It musta got into a terrible fight.
Cause when my head hit the pillow,
It was lookin' alright.
My hair had a party last night.
My hair had a party last night;
When I lay down, everything was all right.
It started out friendly,
But there must have been a fight.
My hair had a party last night.
I pick up a brush, pick up a comb,
I look at the scissors,
But I leave them alone.
There's a lizard that lives in the rocks by the sea.
This morning that lizard looks a lot like me.
I try to wet it down but it only makes it worse,
The cowlick in the back is a family curse.
I pick up a cap and I put it on my head,
And wish I was dreaming back in my warm bed.
Okay, so once I see them in front of me and just try to read them WITHOUT the music, I realize you won't get why kids' music can be super exciting. If I were more techno-savvy, I could embed an MP3 or somethin' like that, but alas, I am too lazy to figure that out. Not to mention there may be copyright issues or something (I didn't include ALL of the lyrics just in case that helps me). Maybe some other day, I'll research that tidbit too. You'll have to trust me when I say this song is infectiously awesome, and songs like this will make singing at the top of your lungs with your kids WAY more fun!

also- that song sounds so addictive- i'm in the wrong field,
I have three or four They Might Be Giants CDs, so I can see the draw. :)
Those lyrics sound great. I'll poke around iTunes or Amazon when I get home and see if I can hear a snippet.
BTW, when I used to play electric fiddle with the Tone Ales in my college days, we opened once for They Might Be Giants! :^)
