CAKE! yes. Tea party? -- umm, okkkaaayyy...but only because you're the cutest daughter on the planet!

Tonight as we were going about the bedtime routine, it dawned on me that Sofia's third birthday is only a couple months away. So, I engaged Sofia in the following conversation:

Me: Sofia, what do you want to do for your birthday this year?
Fia: I want a cake.
Me: (laughing) No, honey, not what do you want, but what do you want to DO? What would you like to do at your party?
Fia: Oh! I want to have a tea party.
Me: Oh! (trying not to exhibit disappointment) That sounds like fun!
Gabe: Not for the boys Mom!
Me: (laughing & thinking, "That's my boy!") Who do you want to invite to your party, Sofia?
Fia: Umm, Anna and Luca and Jeremy. And Abigail and Efan and Efan's Dad.

Now, I had to interject at this point. She was still naming names, but what struck me as funny was the pattern. I didn't point it out to Gabe and I should have! (whatwith him learning patterns at school and all!) Sofia was naming a girl friend of hers, then the girl's brother and then the girl's father each time. Moms were nowhere to be found in this list. I've come to realize that dads are like great big kids, and kids generally adore them. I SO wish I could relax enough and be creative enough to count amongst the big kid list. But wound-up, uptight me, all I can think about is how I don't have her baby book done yet and she's about to turn 3!!! :)

If any dads out there have suggestions on how to make a tea party fun, bring it on! I'm SO at a loss here! I know for a fact that I never (NEVER) had a tea party as a kid. The thought never even occurred to me. I'm SO not a girl. At the same time, I'm not a cool dad. Damn! Don't tell the kids I cursed.... LOL! And for the cool moms out there (Wholly, you know who you are -- I'm pretty sure Fia ranks you high up on that list), please send me some ideas...

Alice in Wonderland Mad Tea Party?! Simple card games and indoor croquet?
Pin the grin on the cheshire cat? King of Hearts crowns for the boys? I've had too many magic mushrooms. :) LOL

You and Mom said the exact same thing! I LOVE that idea!!! I always loved Alice in Wonderland -- I don't know why that thought hadn't even occurred to me yet. Oh yeah, 'cause I'm not the FUN mom! LOL!

Your mom and I do think alike a lot of the time. Do you remember when we had matching couches and we bought the same bedspreads for our kids, none of which we'd ever discussed or shown each other? Wallpaper, too. Hilarious!

This will move you into the fun mom category. LOL I was not much of a fun mom, either, I have to admit. Maybe it's that oldest child thing. I COULD be fun, but that was not my day to day persona. I was appalled at the moms who took their kids to TP people's houses. LOL

Love the Alice in Wonderland themed party! I would have never thought of that either! I lack in the "creative party ideas" department.
You definitely weren't a "let loose" type of mom, Gigi but we had lots of fun moments :) At least you listened to good music!

Do not fear, Aunt Kathy and I are here! We have tea party experience, down to a tea pot cake! And a Mad Hatter tea party has great fun opportunities! We'll help you. Love, Nanni
