So, after getting somewhere between 20 and 30 inches of snow (depending on where you live), the entire metropolitan DC area is shut down, and we have been home with the kids since Thursday of last week. And, the forecast is calling for another foot of snow to fall today. Hmmm...School/work tomorrow? We'll see. We should've gone to Europe for a last-minute vacation. haha! I have no experience with this kind of thing -- having grown up in San Antonio, where it snowed ONCE in '83 or '84.
We have made snow babies, made snow angels, gone "sledding," done all kinds of arts and crafts, played games, watched too much TV/cartoons, played too many video and computer games, baked too many cookies, played with baby dolls and teddy bears ("ssshhhh! They're sleeping!"), assembled puzzles, finally finished Christmas/Hanukkah thank-you cards, and prepared Valentines' Day cards. And of course, I have been doing as many work-related projects as I can think of from our home computer, as the kids and husband have been tolerating it. :)
Naturally, I have a couple of funny stories to share, so I thought I'd share them with you guys. Here's one from yesterday:
Sofia and I were snuggling on the couch together watching the Gwyneth Paltrow version of the movie Emma when Gabe came in the room and asked: "Is this fiction or non-fiction, Mom?"
Me: It's fiction hon -- totally made up story by Jane Austen.
Gabe: But, Mom, Superman is NON-fiction, right?
Me: (stifling a laugh): Umm, (thinking this through now: do I spoil a young boy's dream? How do I answer this question?!)
Gabe: (noticing my hesitation): MOM: I saw him being born and coming from a whole 'nother planet.
Me: Right, hon. So what do you think?
Gabe: Superman is NON-fiction, Mom.
Me: You're the cutest, honey.
(What's a mom supposed to do?!)
And my other favorite story of the weekend so far:
We're baking cookies in the kitchen, and Sofia lets a massive fart rip.
Me: Sofia??? WHAT was that?
Sofia: Walter must've come in the room, Mom.
Me: Walter?
Sofia: Yes, Mom, Walter the farting dog. Didn't you see him?
Me: (cracking up) Well, let's say "Excuse me" on Walter's behalf, shall we?
If you've never read the book "Walter the Farting Dog" by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray, and Audrey Colman, you'll have to check it out. But beware: it teaches kids to blame their flatulence on the dog. My daughter even blames her gas on Walter specifically. It would be funnier if she blamed Zoe, but maybe Sofia is considering Zoe's feelings. :)
Finally, I am going to attempt to post a video of Sofia doing a puppet show for us. I hope this works!

Sounds like a great break from the day-to-day. And Sofia is such a cutie in that video--and I loved hearing your voice!
That video is fab! I also loved hearing your voice and 'meeting' Choc-lick. :)
And how cute is Gabe with the fiction/ non-fiction debate? :)
Such fun- does it make you want to take off work forever? :) I loved the video, too- Princess Sofia gets cuter every day! And I'm impressed that Gabe is already getting the fiction/nonfiction thing down. :)
