This morning after Gabriel had proudly dressed himself, he said, "Hey Mom, look! I'm like a little worker boy." And I tried not to laugh when I turned my head and caught him tucking his shirt into his pants. He has never done that before. I said, "Oh goodness! You DO look like you're headed to work." Gabe responded with a huge grin on his face, "Yeah, I look just like Dad." And, as I caught sight of his adorable little profile, I heard myself laugh and say, "You sure do! JUST like your Dad!" ;)
Later today, I picked the kids up early from daycare and decided to surprise Tim at work. While we were hanging out waiting for Tim to wrap up, I noticed a photo on his desk of the 4 of us that I hadn't seen in a long time, and I said, "Wow! Look at my smile and Gabe's smile in that picture. Aren't they identical?!"
For the most part, I think both kids are Tim's younger spitting image, but every once in a while, I see something (usually in a photo) that reminds me that, hey, genetically, they do have some of my traits. You'd think after 9 months of carrying each of them (not to mention the time spent pushing 'em out!), I wouldn't need reminders like that. But I do. Being a mom sometimes seems surreal to me. And, time is passing by so quickly! I get completely freaked out thinking about Gabe (my first-born, my little baby boy!) going to kindergarten in the fall.
Occasionally, a sales clerk or someone who has never met Tim sees me with my kids and insists they look JUST like me. I always laugh and shake my head. "Nope, they look just like their daddy, but thanks, I think." I'm never completely sure how you're supposed to respond to that comment. And, altho- I admit it may not sound like it right this second in this goofy blog post, I think that it's the coolest thing in the world that Gabe & Sof look like Tim. I love him and our carbon copies of him SO much! Words will never do my emotions justice. :)
