OH YEAH -- I almost forgot, I need your good vibes. Send them my way. I'll tell you why. I got to Fia's daycare this morning, and as if the notes about strep throat and pink eye weren't bad enough in the last couple of weeks, this morning's note announced, "We have had a confirmed case of head lice in the Center." I stopped dead in my tracks. I began (don't ask me why) inspecting Sofia's head. I instantly began feeling itchy myself. I considered taking her with me to work and realized my boss probably wouldn't appreciate that. Dang, yep, I do have a briefing with the office director at 1. Crap.
Still, I was having a tough time going in. I irrationally begged my daughter not to touch anyone or anything at school. She must truly believe I have three heads now. The teachers think she's antisocial as it is. "We wish Sofia would play more with the other kids." What? You mean instead of talk to herself in the mirror for hours or talk to her dollies for hours? Sorry, that's my daughter.
And in case you think I have gotten over any of my irrationality about lice, I asked Tim tonight if it would be inappropriate to try to squeeze her head into a condom before I send her to school tomorrow. "No, not a condom? How about a shower cap? That wouldn't traumatize her too badly, would it? C'mon -- a shower cap?"
I think we only got head lice once in our house growing up, but once was plenty....The worst was pin worms, which only my poor sister got (and I won't name which one), but my Dad seriously inspected all of our cracks and crevices with a flashlight. Now if that isn't humiliating, I don't know what is...Okay, so I'm trying to come up with the silver lining here! Everyone needs to keep your fingers and toes crossed that lice do not enter this house. I will freak the bleep out. :D

We had several rounds of lice when the girls were little. One year, our girls and the two next door neighbor girls passed them back and forth a couple of times. NO FUN trying to get every little nit out of that long hair. My head is itching just thinking about it. Here's hoping those bugs jumped right past your kids.
I won't even go there about pinworms. Let's just say I got the doc to give me a supply of medication to keep at the house because we had quite a run on them for awhile. YUCK.
Just a part of childhood, right? Or were we dirtier than everyone else? LOL
I was lucky enough not to ever get lice as a kid, but I remember the epidemics that would hit the school. Mine wasn't the only school where the school nurse came around and checked kids heads during the outbreaks, was it?
One of my clearest childhood memories is being at my friend Bonnie's house with her brother, my sisters, and both our mom's. We knew that Bonnie had lice, and since she and I spent every waking minute together at that point (except when I was home and apparently head-to-head with my sisters) our moms decided to do a giant lice-shampoo party as a preventive measure.
I hope Sofia doesn't get any!
I got all itchy reading your post.
Yikes.
I'm sorry.
I just caught up on your blog, had a big crach and lost the url.
So, glad you commented on mine.
Your recent escapades have been hysterical.
You guys look great!
Take Care,
Amy
Ugh...I remember mom picking them out of our hair and using that nasty shampoo. So gross! I hope they miss your kids heads!!
As for the condom...maybe a magnum would work :) I am sure people are wondering what the heck I am talking about!
A magnum huh? Haven't seen one of those in awhile! I'm picturing my children's and nieces' faces going, "EWWWWWWW...." :) Lice, pinworms- what about SCABIES? Remember that? We bought some abandoned puppies home, and Dad bathed them. I had handled them a lot, but only Dad and one or two of the kids got scabies. He was soooo mad at me because, of course, it was my fault for bringing strays into the house. No, Gigi, we weren't dirtier than most- we just talk about things must people sweep under the proverbial rug. :) love y'all!
We had them all. I remember the head lice when I was in grade sschool and my mother with her fine tooth comb picking out the nits! Like Susan, I had very curly hair which made it worrse. When we were living in France, I got chiggers and felt so dirty and itchy. Ugh! don't remind me! Good luck!
