Wishin' for mischief

Gabriel started running a fever Saturday night, and the poor little guy was lethargic the rest of the weekend. When our kids get sick, my first thought is usually, "Please Lord, don't let there be a stomach component to this sickness." Let me edit myself. My first thought is not about diarrhea and vomiting, it's actually, "Please let my child get well quickly!" Then after that, I think about the runs and puking. Luckily, there was no tummy bug accomplice to this flu, but my poor little guy was so sick and so sad. I was actually wishing for his ornery side to come out, you know, the whiny Gabe or the spastic, temper-tantrum-throwing Gabe. You know life has thrown you a curveball when you're hoping for THOSE signs of life. But the truth is, even mischievous Gabriel is a Gabe full of life, and boy do I miss him when he's sick. As a parent, after about 2 days, I launched into, "Please God, let this pass TODAY!" mode. So, when he asked if he could play SpongeBob on the computer last night, I almost did cartwheels. And, then I noticed Sofia was starting to cough and become clingy. Uh-oh....sure enough, she's got it now too. Our poor kiddos!
